DSEAR assessments in Swansea, Neath and Port Talbot

The other half of the Celtic Freeport. Swansea's enterprise park, the Baglan and Port Talbot industrial belt, the marina, and a supply chain that is being asked for its DSEAR paperwork more often every year.

What the work looks like here

Swansea Bay carries some of the densest industry in Wales: the steelworks supply chain in Port Talbot, the energy and chemicals cluster at Baglan, Swansea Enterprise Park's engineering and distribution units, the docks and marina, and a university spin-out sector working with hydrogen and batteries. Principal contractors and operators here audit their suppliers hard, and the DSEAR assessment is one of the first documents asked for at pre-qualification. With the Celtic Freeport linking Port Talbot and Milford Haven, the same tier-one contractors work both ends of the M4 and expect the same paperwork at each.

Typical Swansea Bay jobs

Travel and batching

Swansea and Port Talbot are roughly ninety minutes from our Milford Haven base. Travel is built into the fixed quote and is usually absorbed when two or more sites are visited on the same day; contractors with a yard in Port Talbot and another in the Haven are quoted as one job. Where the assessment is needed for a tender, say so — see DSEAR for pre-qualification and tenders.

Fire risk assessment in the same visit

Nearly every DSEAR site also needs a fire risk assessment recorded in full, and PQQs ask for both. We do both, written to agree with each other, in one visit. For kitchens and hospitality on Swansea Bay the extract cleaning question also comes up; that is a different trade, but the fire risk assessment will flag it.

Questions we get asked

Do you cover Swansea and Port Talbot?

Yes. Both are within a morning's drive of Milford Haven and travel is built into the fixed quote. Contractors working the Celtic Freeport at both ends are often assessed as one job.

Our principal contractor wants the DSEAR assessment before we can start on site. How fast?

A single-yard contractor assessment is a half-day visit and a five-working-day report, faster where the start date is fixed. Ring with the deadline.

Can you do hazardous area classification for a new hydrogen or battery facility?

Yes, within scope. New installations must be assessed before work with the dangerous substance starts; see new plant and installations. Complex process plant is scoped honestly on the call and declined if it is outside our competence.

Tell us what you store and we'll tell you where you stand

No charge for the conversation. Most quotes go out the same day.
